PARTY OF GOLD
FREQUENTLY
ASKED
QUESTIONS….
Q: IS THIS COMPANY LEGIT?
A: Party of Gold is a women-owned business, registered in the state of Massachusetts. We have a stellar reputation and provide references if requested. We were recently featured in November 2008 and February 2009 on Chronicle. The clip can be seen on our website. You can also view a recent article written by a reporter attending one of our parties on the front page of The Salem Evening News. WE were also recently featured on Fox News…check out our website!
Q: IS THIS A MULTI-LEVEL MARKETING IDEA?
A: Absolutely not. This is in no way a multi-level marketing scam! We are an independent business, with no affiliation to any other organization. Party of Gold is a registered company, in good standing with the Better Business Bureau.
Q: AS A HOSTESS DO I MAKE ANY MONEY?
A: Yes, the hostess earns 10% of all the checks written at the Party. You can also earn an extra $50.00 per party that books from your event.
Q: IS THERE A MINIMUM NUMBER OF GUESTS REQUIRED FOR A PARTY?
A: No, however, the more gold sold the more money the hostess can earn.
Q: DO YOU DO FUNDRAISERS?
A: Yes, We pay 15% to fundraisers. Some ask for a % of donation from the guests as well. Once fundraiser earned as much as 30%! There is no cost to set up for a Gold Event. We require only a table, chair, good lighting and an outlet. The advertising and promotion is left up to you. It is a great way to earn quick, fun and easy money for your association or charity.
Q: HOW IS THE GOLD TESTED?
A: Gold is tested and weighted right in front of you using the industry’s best equipment by a trained Party of Gold Specialist.
Q: WILL I BE PAID A FAIR PRICE? HOW DO I KNOW I’M NOT GETTING RIPPED OFF?
A: Party of Gold pays at least, and more often than not, quite a bit more than what you would get at a jewelry store, pawn shop or internet site. You will be pleasantly surprised what your tired old and worn jewelry is worth!
Q: HOW DO YOU BASE YOUR PAYOUT ON THE GOLD?
A: The price you see in the papers and on the internet is the price of PURE 24kt GOLD (Troy Oz). Troy Ounces, in the precious metal world weigh considerably more than what we are familiar with. The market rate of gold changes by the second. We use the current market rate of gold before we leave for your party. We use that as the basis of the calculation we use to determine what we offer you.
Q: “I’M NOT SURE I WANT TO SELL MY GOLD. WHAT IF I JUST WANT TO FIND OUT WHAT IT’S WORTH?”
A: There is no pressure to sell your items! We explain the process to you as a Party of Gold representative prices out your gold, and you can decide if you want to sell.
Q: HOW DO YOU PAY, IN GRAMS OR PENNYWEIGHT?
A: We pay out in grams. Most jewelers pay in Pennyweight (dwt). There are more pennyweights per gram so it sounds better but the payout results to about the same. We are happy to show you the conversion.
Q: DO YOU REMOVE THE STONES?
A: We will remove stones if they are on prongs. Although we try to be as cautions as possible, we are not jewelers so there is no guarantee that the stone will not be scratched or chipped. We have tools you can use if you would like to remove the stones yourself. We buy items with stones but we only pay for the gold.
Q: WHAT HAPPENS TO THE JEWELRY AFTER YOU BUY IT?
A: It will get melted down.
Q: DO YOU PAY CASH?
A: No. It is too dangerous for our representatives to carry cash to parties. Also, we don’t know how much we will need for the party in advance. The checks are business checks and we can provide multiple references.
Q: “I DON’T WANT TO HAVE A PARTY BUT WOULD LIKE TO SELL MY GOLD; CAN I COME TO ONE OF YOUR PARTIES?
A: No, we are happy to meet you individually but we cannot bring a stranger into one of our host’s parties.
Q: IS THERE A PARTICULAR DAY OR EVENING THAT WORKS BEST TO HOST A PARTY?
A: It depends on your group of family and friends and their schedules. There is no particular day or time that works better than another.
Q: WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF WORKING WITH PARTY OF GOLD?
A: Your gold is tested and weighed while you wait, in a safe and convenient environment. In this day and age, we have reason to be cautious. Hosting or attending a Party of Gold event is a great way to conduct business in the safety of a friend’s home. It is also a great way to enjoy the company of your friends & family and making money at the same time! Your friends and family can come to a party and actually leave with money!! How many times have you been able to say that?!

Malden Resident and Founder of Malden Youth Hockey Inducted to Mass Hockey Hall of Fame
A place among the elite: Malden resident inducted to Mass. Hockey Hall of Fame
Malden - Recent inductee to the Massachusetts Hockey Hall of Fame Paul Surette was taken aback when he first heard of the organization’s decision to include him among some of the game’s greats. After all, the 80-year-old co-founder of Massachusetts Hockey (then known as the Amateur Hockey Association) and Malden Youth Hockey had been out of hockey for 20 years.
Surette left the game after his best friend, who was his strongest connection to hockey, passed away.
“My best friend, John O’Halloran, died at a hockey conference in Colorado Springs, Colo.,” said Surette, a resident of Malden. “I used to travel with him to make sure he took his medicine. I didn’t end up going with him on this trip. And so, I wrote his obituary, a full page, for the USA Hockey Magazine. After that, I couldn’t take it anymore, the passion was lost and I quit.”
By that time, Surette’s resume had already become quite comprehensive. He was also the founder, president and director of Malden Youth Hockey, as well as the founder, president and director of a number of other state youth hockey teams, both girls and boys. He also founded the Massachusetts Junior Hockey League, and the league’s Lowell Chiefs competed in the 1983 National Junior A Hockey Tournament at Dubuque, Iowa.
As an inductee in the Massachusetts Hockey Hall of Fame’s Builders category, Surette was joined by former Boston Bruins player, Bob Sweeney, and Boston Bruins announcer, Bob Wilson, among others. He also joined his best friend, O’Halloran, who had been inducted years prior for his heavy involvement in local youth hockey.
Surette’s introduction to hockey came with an unassuming invitation, he said.
“I never put on a pair of skates,” Surette explained. “What happened was that in 1962, I was asked by my friend, who was a great hockey player at Malden High School, to go to an exhibition being put on. And I was so impressed that I wanted to get involved with hockey in some way. I spoke with a friend of mine and he said we needed some volunteers for a youth hockey team. And he said I didn’t actually have to go on the ice. I did it for a while; it was cold, but a lot of fun.”
And with that beginning, Surette went on to collect many accolades and pave roads at every opportunity. His career in hockey, as he said, was one defined by a procession of opportunities. Often times, established teams beckoned for his help, and other times, he would build teams and entire leagues from the ground up.
Surette’s son, David Surette, who played on one of his father’s greatly successful teams, felt that the induction encompassed the dedication of his father.
“It validates the hard work he put in and the fact that he did it without ever expecting a reward,” said David. “He loved the game. There is no ego involved with him because this wasn’t something we expected or asked for. They sought him out. Plus, he’s in wonderful company. Many of the people he’s worked with and the people who’ve stuck around after he was inducted are there. I think being part of that tradition is important to him. But most importantly, he did it for free, without ever asking for credit. That’s the kind of guy he is.”
